Keyboard yoga and chicken selfies
JULY 2022
The Ergo

Hi *|FNAME|*,

Most typing trainers (like Ngrams, featured below) focus on the output. The point is whatever's on the screen. We wanted to make a different sort of typing trainer, where the focus is on your body and the physical experience of typing. It's a short experience called Keyboard Yoga, and you can check it out below. If you do like it, consider supporting it on Product Hunt, so more people can find ZSA and hear about what we do.

As a runner and a lover of baked goods, I quite enjoyed this month's featured interview with Melissa Lopez.

In other important news, I found a gallery of selfies taken by chickens. It's linked below for your viewing pleasure.

As always, thank you for reading. Write me anytime — ez@zsa.io.

All the best,
Erez

Introducing Keyboard Yoga

Introducing Keyboard Yoga

A different kind of typing trainer

What does your body feel like when you're typing? Where do you carry tension? Paying attention to your posture for just a few moments can pay dividends long after you're done. You don't need a ZSA keyboard for this one.

Featured User Interview

Melissa Lopez

Software Engineer @ Google
Although she loves coding on Firebase, Melissa also enjoys teaching the next generation of software engineers at Computer Science Summer Institute.
"Last summer I picked up running, and have worked with Mindful Miles since then to get from a place where running = pain even on a good day, to a place where on the best days running is meditation."

Layout of the month

Layout of the month: Dan's Minimal Layout

I got to this layout by a few major steps, then many minor changes. Step 1: Default Ergodox layout. Step 2: Change everything to match MacBook Pro layout as closely as possible. Step 3: Land on primary actions for thumbs. Step 4: Could I use a Planck or a Corne? Try removing all the outer key maps.

Things we liked

Great selfies taken by chickens

Take a Canon 7D, a speed flash, a Raspberry Pi, and a motion trigger. Write some custom code. Place gear in weather-proof boxes. Put in a field with a bunch of chickens (and the occasional deer). The results are just great, and the domain name is fantastic, too.

Internet. Offline.

An interesting and free way to download websites and online content for local consumption and archiving. I sometimes locally archive entire websites I find valuable. Open-source and cross-platform.

Where’s the Orb of Zot?

An open-source roguelike adventure you can play in the browser or locally. My favorite part is that you can watch live games right on the site. Free and cross-platform.

A touch-typing trainer using Ngrams as a data source.

Drills you on the most common sequences of letters in English. Boosts your typing speed and accuracy by focusing on small and controlled chunks of text. Browser-based, open-source, free, to the point.

Incredible loops

Gorgeous 3D loop animations by artist Andreas Wannerstedt. The lighting, textures/shaders, timing, and sound design are all spot on. Extremely satisfying to watch. He has lots of other beautiful work but this page is a good place to start.

Tip: We have a subscriber-only link archive with all of the links we shared over the years. Just for you. ❤️
